Overview
The Local Reference Number (LRN) must be unique. An LRN may be rejected if it has already been registered with HMRC.
Why ?
A submission may fail because of a temporary network, browser or server issue, even though the original request has already been sent to HMRC.
In this situation, HMRC may have already registered the LRN.
If you receive an LRN duplication error:
- Change the LRN to a new unique number.
- If required, add a version number using letters and numbers.
- Avoid resubmitting the same LRN repeatedly.
The same issue can occur when an amended ENS is treated as a duplicate because multiple submissions were generated during a previous attempt.
